Stolen Motorcycles Alert

From 26th Police District – May 2018

There has been an increase in stolen motorcycles in the 26th District. The thefts have occurred in Northern Liberties & Fishtown. Most of the thefts occurred by the perpetrators cutting the locks to the motorcycles.

Be cautious of individuals sitting on steps near parked motorcycles for long periods of time. Previous incidents also involved the criminals
using a Mini-Van or “Church” Van to load the
motorcycles into.

Targeted Areas for stolen motorcycles: Northern Liberties & Fishtown

Time of day: 10pm to 5am

Below are some tips to help prevent theft.

  • Lock your ignition (the majority of thefts happen when the ignition is turned off
    but not locked)
  • Lock your motorcycle to a stationary, immovable object
  • Park your motorcycle in a well lit area
(in front of cameras if possible)
  • Lock the forks and disc brakes
  • Install a motorcycle alarm
  • Check on your motorcycle periodically
  • Make sure locks are wrapped as tightly as possible
(slack provides room for thieves to chisel away)
  • Install a hidden “kill” switch
  • If selling your motorcycle, don’t let unknown buyers go for solo test rides
    (they may not come back)
