July 31 Deadline
The City’s Property Tax situation remains in flux, with new property assessments not yet released; the new tax rate unknown; and the PA legislature still having to act in order to make some of the City’s proposals legal.
But there’s one thing you can – and must – do now if you are a homeowner: fill out and submit a Homestead Exemption form.
If a property is your primary residence, you can get a tax exemption on a portion of its value (current proposals in City Council range from $15,000 to $40,000). In other words, for tax purposes, the value of your house is reduced, resulting in a lower tax bill.
The PA legislature has to approve a Homestead Exemption for Philly, and they haven’t done so yet. But in case they do, the City has posted a form you can fill out to apply for your exemption. You MUST apply in order to get the exemption – and the City has set a deadline of July 31.

Form also available from the NLNA web site, and State Rep. Mike O’Brien’s office – 610 N. 2nd St. here in NL (215-503-3245)
The form must be mailed; it cannot be submitted electronically.
Needless to say, this is a fairly chaotic situation. We will provide updates as they become available. The important thing now is to fill out your Homestead Exemption Form by clicking HERE.
