Elections

The NLNA Board of Directors has four officers, plus 11 at-large members. President, Treasurer, and six at-large members are elected in even years; Vice-President, Secretary, and five at-large members are elected in odd years.  All terms are for two years.

Nominations are taken at the General Meeting every April, and the election is held at the General Meeting every May. If you would like to run in the next election, you can ask someone to nominate you, or you can simply nominate yourself.

To vote in NLNA elections an individual must be 18 years of age or older, must be a resident of Northern Liberties, or must own a business with a physical* in Northern Liberties, and must be registered with the NLNA. Anyone who has voted in NLNA elections in recent years is still registered.

To register you need to present a driver’s license or other proof of residency such as a utility bill.

To serve on the Board of Directors as an at-large member, a nominee must meet the requirements as described above. In addition, the candidate must have lived in, or owned a business in, Northern Liberties for a period of not less than one year prior to the election. To serve as an officer, candidates must have served on the Board now or in the past for at least one year.

*Property owners who do not live in or run a business in the neighborhood, and business owners with only a PO box in the neighborhood, are not eligible to run for any seat, or to vote in the election.

Board members are expected to:

  • Attend monthly Board of Directors meetings on the first Monday of each month
  • Chair or help lead at least one NLNA committee or project/initiative
  • Volunteer for various NLNA fundraisers and events
  • Stay in active contact with other Board members via the NLNA board email list
  • Be ambassadors to the neighborhood, and generally help solve problems and promote quality of life
  • Participate in overseeing the NLNA’s finances and internal operations
